The finished result along with the canvas settings that should work well. Therefore, I used a reef satellite image, made it seamless using Photoshop, and extracted height data from it using a blue filter. Finished twigs. Finished simulation result. Usually, I use HDRI images and swap the sky in Photoshop when needed.

The Terrain materials are maps generated by Gaea, which I then tweaked in Photoshop to get them to the color I needed. I used the alpha brushes to paint the texture and create a patina effect for the steel, making it look like it had a raw finish. I painted a map in Photoshop and applied it as Corona Renderer displacement in 3ds Max.

It is a two-story building elevated above a ground-level parking deck, with a stucco exterior finish and ribbon windows around the entire building. Once the existing interiors were removed, the building has a nice, clean, open floor plate to work with … the exterior is not so lucky.

I should point out that I took our construction drawings in to Photoshop and added some color so that it might be a little bit easier to see what’s what. We are able to accomplish this visual “minimization” by embedding the steel frame in to the wall and making the finish materials flush out with the edge of the frame.
