Essay: Will Our Future Be All-Electric?

Dwell

Cities across the country are banning natural gas in new homes. At the end of 2020, my wife and I bought a two-story brick house on a tiny block in South Philadelphia, near where we’d been renting for close to a decade. Two ex-New Yorkers reimagine their lives together and team up with a local architect to create an unexpected residence. From the outside, Casa San Cristobal looks much like the other homes in Mérida’s historic center, with a tall plaster wall that faces the street—no front garden, no way to peek inside. The only signs that something special lies behind the pale-green facade are the sleek house numbers and two bright-blue doors.

Well the year is still young but so far the opposite has been happening. Back in January, the price of EU carbon permits were hovering around €80 per tonne. Since Russia bullied its way into Ukraine at the end of February, this market has corrected and now hovers around €66 per tonne.
