Life Reusing Posidonia was a prototype for "hyper-local architecture" on the Balearic islands

Completed in 2017, Life Reusing Posidonia is a multi-award winning project consisting of 14 publicly protected, low-cost homes in Sant Ferran de ses Roques, an inland town in central Formentera – one of the Balearic islands. Dwellings feature individual outdoor spaces The houses were clad in bricks fired in a biomass mortar kiln.

Rural hospital in Bangladesh named world's best building by RIBA

The Friendship Hospital in Bangladesh by local architecture studio Kashef Chowdhury/URBANA has been awarded the RIBA International Prize 2021. The hospital is the latest winner of the RIBA International Prize, which is awarded biennially to a project "that demonstrates design excellence and social impact".

Amin Taha’s controversial London HQ lists for £3.2m

Taha completed the mixed-use building in 2017 and won an RIBA National award for it in 2018. The order was withdrawn following a lengthy, two-year legal battle, and the Clerkenwell building was later shortlisted for the Stirling Prize in 2021 – the UK’s highest award for architectural excellence.

Yi Design turns ceramic waste into water-permeable bricks

Chinese materials company Yi Design has developed a porous brick made from recycled ceramic waste that could be used to prevent flooding in urban areas. The resulting material is used to create a series of durable products such as bricks and glazed tiles in the company's own factory in Jingdezhen, which was set up in 2021.
