NYC construction workers injured at the site of architect Erica Tishman's 2019 death as concerns mount

A collapsing floor injured two workers Monday at a midtown office building where falling exterior work killed a prominent architect in 2019. It is not clear at this time whether or not workers on the site were unionized or not. The accident at 729 Seventh Avenue happened just before 10 a.m.

New York firm RKTB Architects has completed One Sullivan Place, a mixed-income apartment building that rises 12 storeys and cantilevers in two directions over the rooftop of an adjacent structure. The building is located in the Crown Heights neighbourhood, near Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

The challenge was to propose a type of housing adapted to the Mediterranean climate and customs, while maintaining the industrial character of the site. Designed as a luminous "gap", the exterior becomes the central element.

The design navigated the site’s steep topography by setting the larger exhibit volume into the ground and terracing the plane along the main facade to the entry. The building form mimics the unique wedge shape of the site by using voids to create exterior spaces.

Hebra Arquitectos tucks Lone Oak House within wooded site in Chile

Chilean studio Hebra Arquitectos has completed an elevated home with steel pilotis and a V-shaped roof, aiming to create a building that "floats in the middle of the forest". Exterior walls consist of cypress wood screens and large stretches of glass. Concrete and black-painted steel were used for the structural system.
