I’m not sure how much you can actually glean from this Australian Bureau of Statistics data (taken from this recent New Geography article ): The data was collected on August 20, 2021 and, at that time, there were still a number of pandemic lockdowns in place. and that its transit share was 26.2%.

On January 1st of this year, I wrote a post called, “ My 2021 predictions.” But Omicron has certainly impacted the recovery: Urban/downtown real estate will strongly rebound. Here in Toronto, Q3-2021 saw condo rents in the core increase 11.4% This year was, of course, a tricky year with lots of uncertainty.

Lower rates are good for levered assets such as real estate, but I don’t think that our industry has fully felt and processed the impacts of higher rates. This is when a “risk-on” approach will return in commercial real estate. This is down from nearly $3 trillion at the peak of the market in 2021.
