The top volume steps back, allowing for a terrace atop the bottom bar's roof. Exterior walls are clad in tight-knot, western red cedar – the same material used for outdoor decks. Large stretches of glass are partly shaded by overhanging roofs. The home's steep, rocky site can be seen through large windows.

Passive house construction and high-performance windows and doors in this townhouse addition allowed us to create walls of glass with an indoor-outdoor experience to a roof deck clear of all mechanicals. People want the best house they can have, and designing to Passive House is a great way to get them there.

Flat roofs hover above two wings of the home, providing large overhangs and covered outdoor spaces.
