The new developments look startlingly alike, often in the form of boxy, mid-rise buildings with a ground-floor retail space, sans-serif fonts and vivid slabs of bright paneling. The larger question of whether drabness is a permanent condition of contemporary architecture, however, remains unanswered.

London studio Oskar Kohnen has outfitted a Mayfair office with mid-century modern furniture and contemporary pieces, which "are so well curated that no one would ever dare to throw them away". Spread across three floors, the office is housed within a rectilinear building in London's Mayfair neighbourhood with a gridded facade.

Transitional and contemporary design concepts were introduced, respecting and accentuating the historical Architecture of the home. Playing off of the period painted wall wainscoting , a more contemporary white oak chevron pattern paneling was introduced at the Kitchen and banquette mill work.
