Architecture studio Grimshaw has completed the 27-storey Poly Centre office skyscraper in downtown Sydney , which is fronted by a series of arched cantilevers. The shorter arched tower is designed to provide a covered walkway alongside the street and a series of double-height spaces for the office tower.

They bought the house to start a family, and since we started the project they’ve had two kids. A spacious stairway runs up the center of the house, culminating in a dramatic sliding roof deck skylight which acts as an interior light well brightening the core of the house. What was the brief? This was a two-story house for a couple.

The 23-storey mixed-use building, MVRDV’s first completed project on the west coast of the United States, is part of a masterplan that creates the wholly new neighbourhood “Mission Rock” overlooking San Francisco Bay. In the case of The Canyon, the ground floor is topped by two floors of offices, in turn capped by 283 apartments.

Ground floor spaces provides areas for community gathering, commercial space, a YMCA childcare center, live-work flats. It is hoped that this habitat will support a host of native species of birds, hummingbirds, bees, and at least eighteen species of native moths and butterflies.

The podium level is visually connected with an inner courtyard to the ground floor and childcare activities below as well as a 7th story and roof space above, dedicated to urban agriculture and food production for residents. The project features a rooftop photovoltaic array and solar hot water array, targeting a LEED Gold rating.

From the conversion of a Norwegian silo to a green-roofed Japanese villa, we've rounded up some of the most interesting architecture projects that are scheduled for completion in 2024.
