While I think it's one of the best jobs you can have, being an architect can complicate other aspects of your life, aspects that "regular" people can blissfully go about their lives completely, and at times, blissfully unaware. I am in full-blown renovation at my house at the moment, and I am either a genius or a complete lunatic for choosing this time to tackle the work.

Los Angeles is expected to add 14 hotels with nearly 3,100 rooms in the second half of 2020, and a total of 50 hotels with 10,436 rooms in the next four years, according to the TopHotelProjects construction database. Analysts at Lodging Econometrics (LE) report that at the close of the second quarter of 2020, the total U.S. hotel construction pipeline stands at 5,582 projects/687,801 rooms, down a mere 1% by projects and rooms, Year-Over-Year (YOY). The design and construction outlook for Multifamily Housing is again moving in the right direction, according to the PSMJ Resources’ Quarterly Market Forecast (QMF). . After a first quarter that saw the multifamily market suffer its lowest level of proposal activity in nearly a decade, PSMJ’s quarterly survey of architecture, engineering, and construction firm executives reported a +7% net plus/minus index (NPMI), up from the -2% recorded in the first three months of the year.

In the recently released quarterly United States Construction Pipeline Trend Report from Lodging Econometrics (LE), the franchise companies with the largest construction pipelines at the end of the second quarter of 2020 are Marriott International with 1,487 projects/195,952 rooms, followed by Hilton Worldwide with 1,395 projects/160,078 rooms, and InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) with 920 projects/94,499 rooms.

Established by the Alliance to Save Energy in 2007, the EECC is composed of building sector advocates committed to improving the stringency of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) recently adopted a climate emergency declaration. The declaration includes a commitment to working toward an ambitious goal of delivering carbon-neutral electricity by 2030. “The declaration recognizes the immediate risks to our community and demands bold action to achieve results,” according to a SMUD news release.
