Hospitality is hot—and, as we shall see, it’s also cool. Very cool. The global hotel construction pipeline hit a 10-year high in 2018, according to Lodging Econometrics. In the U.S., nearly 670,000 rooms were in development or under construction last year—116,000 rooms shy of the 2008 peak. New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, Dallas, and Houston are particularly robust.

Last Friday, the University of Texas at Austin held a grand opening ceremony for the Frank Denius Family Athletics Hall of Fame, a 24,713-sf space that is located at the north endzone of Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. The $17.1 million space, designed by Page and built by Turner Construction, includes 392 trophies earned over the decades by the university’s 20 sports teams.

According to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data published today, national nonresidential construction spending declined 0.3% in July totaling $776 billion on a seasonally adjusted annualized basis, and increased 0.1% compared to July 2018. The June 2019 estimates were revised upward from $773.8 billion to $778.5 billion.

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) has updated a standard that providing guidance for installing fenestration products. AAMA 812-19, “Voluntary Practice for Assessment of Frame Deflection When Using One Component Polyurethane Foams for Air-Sealing Rough Openings of Fenestration Installations,” was last updated in 2010. One component polyurethane foams have sometimes been associated with frame deflection of fenestration products.
