ODA unveils renderings of two massive, mixed-use towers in Fort Lauderdale

New York-based architecture and design firm ODA-Architecture has released renderings of its Ombelle project, a pair of mixed-use towers in Ft. Lauderdale , Florida. Developer Dependable Equities tapped ODA to design the architecture, interiors, and landscape for the 1.5-million-square-foot structure. Image courtesy ODA The development, which comprises two mirrored 43-story towers, will offer 1,100 rental units, 11,217 square feet of retail space, and 27,837 square feet of indoor amenities.

Designer Colin Cantwell, who was responsible for the design of the Death Star and several iconic ships in the Star Wars saga, has passed away at the age of 90. The news was confirmed by the designer’s partner, Sierra Dall, and reported first by the Hollywood Reporter. Born in San Francisco in 1932, Cantwell earned a degree in animation from the University of California, Los Angeles.

New York City's last remaining public payphone has been removed

It was the last of its kind in operation in New York , following a sweep of the city’s 8,178 active public payphones starting in 2015. Replacing the former payphone sites have been LinkNYC kiosks that were first introduced by tech company consortium City Bridge in 2014 following a competition launched by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg to reimagine the payphone.
