Because it was an unreservedly plain and straightforward design strapped by a miserly budget, BOORA chose to rely upon the superficial application of a distinctive exterior color scheme to provide Olive Plaza with visual interest. The Portland firm of Broome, Oringdulph, O’Toole, Rudolf & Associates (BOORA) was the architect.

Here, exterior space (3,284 square feet) rivals interior space (4,427 square feet). Limestone walls reflect the natural stone outcroppings found on the 46-acre property and the tongue-and-groove cedar siding is meant to naturally patina with age, providing both a natural honesty to the structure and reduced maintenance.

When altering both the interior and exterior, a sensitivity to the existing structure was observed. This curvaceous approach also acts as a diagram to contrast new vs old. The new addition stands in contrast with contemporary details, larger open spaces, and modernist massing.
