Working in collaboration with IRI Architecture, MVRDV carried out the alterations to transform the pyramid-shaped concrete structure from the 1980s into a cultural hub. Four of these boxes top the 20-metre-high pyramid, while several of those surrounding it are stacked two high to form two-storey interconnected structures.

Due to its sloping terrain, the structure appears as a piece of architecture deposited in the environment. The site is prepared with a sort of foundation made from the grey tonality of the stones found in the surroundings; in fact, the name Zahara comes from the Arabic Sahara, which could be translated as a “rocky place”.

Located in Tiny, the Unfinished House is a 1,400-square-foot (130 square metre) two-bedroom, two-bathroom home with additional flexible spaces that double as accommodations for visitors.
