Building elements are organized into attached/detached pavilions based on program, hierarchy of structure and levels of privacy. The existing monolithic bulkhead is pierced by three new coves that restore the lakeshore back to its imagined natural beauty which in-turn allows the family to enjoy activities at the water’s edge.

The reuse preserved the industrial integrity of the landmark structure, supported the school’s pedagogical goals, and integrated advanced sustainable building systems. A new two-story structure was lightly inserted within the historic, light-filled volume, clearly articulating new from old.

The front facade, which looks north and is clad in cement plaster, was restored and largely kept intact. The material palette includes a mix of expressed structural elements.
