Named after the philanthropist Glorya Kaufman, the building sits on a sloped site within the Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services in the Cheviot Hills neighbourhood. The concept was inspired by a dance piece called Lamentation, by late American dancer and choreographer Martha Graham , in which a dancer struggles within a garment.
