In the Colonial Era, Newport’s waterfront served as the community’s front door and its lifeblood. Newport’s nickname “The City by the Sea” is well earned. But in Newport, the waterfront was also a rough place of industry and production. The stench of fish byproducts and large windowless warehouses were typical of the aves.

Mixed-Use Development: The law encourages the development of mixed-use projects that combine residential, commercial, and retail spaces, promoting lively and walkable communities.

Newport Architecture Spotlight : McKim, Mead, and White in the Catherine-Kay Neighborhood. The first commission was an important one: The Newport Casino Club for New York media tycoon James Gordon Bennett Jr. But just twenty years earlier, in 1880, they were a brand new partnership. named “The Shingle Style.”

The Site The studio is built on the grounds of the artist’s residence, a 20-acre working horse farm. The project site was established at the northwestern corner of the farmyard to serve as a bookend to the existing buildings and paddocks. Ecological sensitivity is an important consideration in the project.

Over the years, the campus’ aging farm buildings became less than ideal for music rehearsal and archival needs.

Positioned on a hilltop overlooking the iconic Bells Beach Surfing Reserve, this property involved alterations and additions to the existing dilapidated 3 bedroom residence on site.
