Japanese brand Karimoku Case has redesigned an apartment on a hilltop in Tokyo , using wood and a neutral colour palette to create a "calm and serene atmosphere". The studio used the project as an opportunity to optimise the use of local zelkova wood which is increasingly underutilised. The photography is by Tomooki Kengaku.

The odd frontage of the tower, which stands 180 meters tall (nearly 590 feet), is a successful project by the architectural firm Aedas. The facade design of this world’s most twisted towers is inspired by the dancing aurora, with linkages connecting the northern and eastern sides bottom-to-top. It resembles the northern lights.

The project is part of the international building exhibition IBA’27 which hopes to bring together production and living to establish a truly mixed urban condition. The auditorium and the stage are conceived as a timber construction that can be carefully taken apart and reassembled, enabling perpetual reconstruction.

Gut-renovating this São Paulo apartment has allowed Brazilian studio Pascali Semerdjian Arquitetos to incorporate the personalities of it occupants, particularly in the bedrooms of the family's two children. Without complete structural plans of the apartment or building, the demolition process revealed multiple hidden elements.
