The client had a dark, low ceiling, 1970’s rear extension that was unhabitable due to its current damp conditions and used as a storage without proper access to the rear garden. The kitchen had patio doors facing an immediate staircase leading into the upper garden which created a dark space facing onto the kitchen.

Together, we developed a brief for a lifetime home on the site of her existing house’s garage. The design reflects the neighbouring gable fronted, bay windowed houses. The school, convent and chapel are situated cheek by jowl on an extremely tight site, which presented both physical constraints and logistical challenges to the project. In addition, the school remained operational throughout the building works. Essential to the brief was access to the outside for pupils and staff.
