Exponential growth in net zero energy buildings predicted for the next two decades

The global market for products and services related to achieving net zero energy in residential and commercial construction and renovation is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 44.5% between 2014 and 2035, and exceed $1.4 trillion in that last year, according to the latest estimates in a new 24-page report, titled Net Zero Energy Buildings , published by Navigant Research.

76-Story luxury apartment tower in Chicago’s South Loop gets name and begins construction

The new 829-foot-tall residential tower planned for Chicago’s South Loop has received the official name of One Grant Park and will comprise 792 luxury apartments. The tower, which will become one of the city’s tallest residential buildings, began construction at its 1200 S. Indiana Ave., in December. Included in the building’s almost 800 units will be a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments.

New research from the Society for Marketing Professional Services Foundation (SMPS Foundation) finds that average AEC firm hit rate—measured most commonly as the total number of proposals submitted to the total number of projects won—falls within the 37-44% range, depending on the discipline. Engineering firms have the highest average hit rate, at 44.2%.

Low-income housing doesn’t lower neighborhood housing values

An analysis by real-estate listing website Trulia in the 20 highest-priced U.S. housing markets from 1996 to 2006 found that residential property values near low-income housing were not significantly impacted. . The study looked at more than 3,000 low-income housing projects and their surrounding neighborhoods. Home values within 2,000 feet of low-income housing projects were largely the same as homes between 2,000 and 4,000 feet from these projects.
