The design applications of glass are as limitless as the imagination. Glass coatings and colors can be applied primarily for aesthetic purposes, yet the performance benefits are an added - sometimes necessary - bonus. Every year in the office we pick a few local charitable events and get involved. This will be the 3rd year in a row that we have been involved with the SPCA’s Bark + Build and we are all fighting over this year’s entry … the Ar-CAT-tects. … so clever. This was the first year that cat towers were included in the event, which meant that there were three very interested people in our office … at least two of them are definitely cat ladies.

Back in the early days of my coaching business, I didn’t place much importance on systems. They simply didn’t seem necessary, and they certainly didn’t strike me as something that would contribute to my success. Plus, creating systems just felt like more work, a way to waste time I didn’t really have. That changed as I got busier with my business and realized that NOT having systems was preventing me from reaching the next level and achieving more growth.

The 2018 International Green Construction Code (2018 IgCC) has been released. The 2018 IgCC is a joint initiative of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), International Code Council (ICC), ASHRAE , and the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES). The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) will begin offering LEED recertification for all LEED-certified projects. Projects must submit 12 months of data demonstrating continued or improved performance to be eligible for recertification. Zero energy buildings are on the rise in some areas, but barriers that are retarding their spread nationwide remain. That’s the conclusion of a new report, “Pathways to Zero Energy Buildings through Building Codes,” by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. One barrier is a “solar-only” mindset where an owner adds solar to a building but gives short shrift to energy efficiency.

Once home to the Honolulu Advertiser —the city’s largest daily—this 1929 Beaux Arts–style building has been a landmark in Honolulu’s Kakaako neighborhood for nearly 90 years.
