Standing out in that portfolio is the contemporary relic of Garden Lane Residence, a period restoration of a nineteenth-century Victorian terrace bordering the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne’s South Yarra. They maximise natural light and lead to the courtyard landscaping by Kate Seddon.

Referencing the home’s modernist beginnings while designing a contemporary extension for a growing family was key to the brief. Landscape architects were engaged early in the design phase to ensure an integrated vision for the expanded site. The clients wanted to create a home that would grow with their family.

Considered a visionary design at the time, the reinforced concrete frame of the building and sleek international style forms represented the optimism and ambition of 1960s high modernism.
