the complex consists of two semi-cylindrical, prefabricated steel warehouse buildings, notable for their arching roof forms and con-nected via an enclosed walkway. While much of the existing structures will remain intact, Skylab has reworked the layout and is updating the buildings through a strategic set of insertions and modifica-tions.

According to the team, it was informed by the Engawa, an element of Japanese architecture that resembles a veranda or porch that runs along the perimeter of a structure. We have created a Japanese-style porch design that not only continues the interior space for tasting drinks, etc.

Rooms feature a blend of earthy and industrial materials The interior was designed by San Francisco-based HSH Interiors , who drew upon the client's love of "comfort, layers and textures". The first two floors’ structure and orientation follow the existing house, but the new third floor rotates 90 degrees to better relate to the site. This shift breaks up the mass of the structure, giving some levity and height, while differentiating itself from the lower floors.
