Double-thick eight-inch concrete walls fitted with foam insulation extend up to the roof on the low side. Clerestory windows enclose the triangular space between the roof and concrete walls.

US studio CCY Architects has clad a mountainside house in patinated copper panels and tilted the roof to adhere with the topography of its site in Colorado. Known as DNA Alpine, the 4,000-square foot (372-square metre) home was completed in 2022 and designed to "disappear into or somehow become" the 75-acre site in San Miguel County.

US studio Desai Chia Architecture designed a highly sculptural, waterfront home wrapped in concrete and charred cypress that has vaulted roofs resembling wings. Roughly rectangular in plan, the dwelling has cutouts, cantilevers and multiple sloped roofs that combine in a sculptural way. Desai Chia created "winged" roofs for the house.

The continuous roof provides overhead protection from rain and snow in-between the two buildings and at the exterior fuel island. Structurally, the building was created using a combination of steel, which was left exposed in the interior, as well as cross-laminated timber (CLT), an engineered wood product. The CLT was used for the upper and lower roof decks and the entirety of the second floor was made using the material, which was then topped by gypcrete.
