Completed in 1939, Willert Park Courts was constructed as the first public housing complex in Buffalo specifically for Black residents, built under the US Housing Authority, newly established at the time. It was designed by architect Edward Charles "Chuck" Bassett of SOM and Peter Walker of Sasaki, Walker and Associates.
