Japanese studio Kooo Architects has designed the skinny Hotel Rakuragu in central Tokyo to have a "unique shape", with cut-out balconies that help to preserve privacy. The nine-storey building occupies a site measuring just 83.5 square metres, which has buildings on either side.

Architecture firm Alterstudio has completed a tower-like house in Texas that rises up from a steep, wooded site that was long overlooked "as a possible home site". The site had long been overlooked as feasible for home construction. Alterstudio saw potential and let the constraints guide the home's design.

A pair of stone towers and a thatched -roof palapa are among the features at a nature retreat in southern Mexico designed by architects Mauricio Rocha and Gabriela Carrillo. It sits at the edge of a nature preserve on Punta Cometa, or Comet Point, a peninsula that juts into the Pacific Ocean and was once the site of an Aztec fort.

US architecture Ross Barney Architects has completed a NASA laboratory for deep-space technology testing in Cleveland , USA, which includes a tower made of pre-cast concrete panels for testing antennas. The copper in the concrete allows for the building to act like a Faraday cage, completely isolating it from outside radio interference.

Local firm In Situ Studio was charged with designing a contemporary residence for a couple – the husband is an electrical engineer, and the wife is a German and history teacher. If built, it would be only 26 feet shorter than the SOM-designed One World Trade Center in New York, the tallest building in the US.
