Completed in the spring of 2021, the 6,060-square-foot (563-square-metre) House on a Bay is composed of two distinct bars that sit atop a steep site overlooking a bay in Southport, Maine. Elliott Architects demolished the main house and relocated the other two structures to start the design with a clean slate.

The Arc’s counterintuitive orchestration of geometry brings the structure into a state of equilibrium, which means a dramatically decreased necessity for structural material. This also means an unprecedented inner volume with an impossibly thin structure and without any distracting trusses.

Year: 2021. What inspired the initial concept for your design? As this is an all-glass box with no dead space, the biggest challenge was to hide the pipework and structure. The project, which was completed in 2021, sits on a former farm that occupies a 163-acre lot in Gallatin, within New York State's Hudson Valley. North River Architecture included a home office on the ground floor, while the rest of this level is mainly comprised of an open-concept kitchen, living and dining room.

Year: 2021. Fort 137 – The clients sought an environmentally conscious home with a direct relationship to its site to function as a base camp for their active lifestyle. In response, the residence is an open structure, organized into three layers, which radiate from a communal nucleus to a periphery of private zones.
