The siting of the project was influenced by local zoning regulations, however the new mass also yields to the existing house along the north elevation to celebrate the different periods of construction. Across the façade of the existing house, built openings were respected and referenced when conceiving interior layouts.

Bordered to the west by the winding Humber River, many houses in the Baby Point area enjoy sought-after views of the river valley. This lent the opportunity to work in sections to devise a dynamic space that not only opened the house up to let light in, but soared up to a lookout point to see over adjacent buildings to the river.

The entry is flanked by an intimate living space that conceals the open floor plan at the back of the house. The project brief requested attention to function to create a home that a family could grow into while ensuring the formal response was equally considered and the space was subdued and minimal.
