The museum is divided into two volumes, which are connected by a glass and concrete footbridge. It is clad in untreated green English oak and features pitched roofs that were informed by Oxford's river boathouses and traditional wooden barns. A temporary exhibition space was topped with a saw-tooth roof.

The space's original columns were restored, with dark-coloured steel frames placed between each one to give the shop facades a unified appearance. The control rooms have been restored.

Following a historical survey of the site, it was determined that the early 20th-century buildings should be restored to their original condition. Chen told Dezeen that he felt the canteen building should also be preserved as it complements the masterplan and style of the earlier structures.

Ramps fold up and around the bowl to get to the future theater lounge with an outdoor roof deck overlooking the recently restored wetlands and park landscape. A long-span Suspendome roof makes it possible for the space to be entirely column-free, reinforcing the adaptability and hybrid nature of the building.
