Learning about “urban apartheid” ( Brown , 2021) and “redlining,” a process in which the federal agency called Homeowners' Loan Corporation (HOLC) rated urban neighborhoods to control the real estate market. The symposia helped the students understand the context in which systemic racism has dictated the way cities were designed.
