'US demand for roofing is projected to rise 3.5 percent annually to 268 million squares in 2017, valued at $27.2 billion. This will be a rebound from the declines seen between 2007 and 2012 when roofing demand fell as a result of a steep drop in building construction. 'FMI''s 2013 Third Quarter Nonresidential Construction Index report shows a NRCI score of 60.3, a.2-point improvement over Q2. Although the numbers aren’t drastically rising, the sustainability and continuing upward movement is encouraging. This score remains the highest score for the NRCI index since Q1 2009. The index for the overall economy rose to 72 points and the combined index sentiment for economies where panelists are doing business rose 3.2 points.

Sports stadium accidents suggest code updates may be necessary to prevent falls

'Since 2000, at least three individuals have died as a result of falling from the upper decks of stadiums in the United States. In addition, eight non-fatal falls have occurred in stadiums and arenas over that time. The International Building Code calls for a minimum height of 42 inches for railings at the base of aisles. In front of fixed seating, the minimum requirement drops to 26 inches, or roughly knee height, regardless of the potential fall distance from the deck.
