Architecture 2030 estimates that the embodied carbon of materials will account for 72 percent of emissions associated with new construction between now and 2030. Even though the project was commissioned as a temporary installation, the materiality and detail give it durability that feels at home in this storied site.

The old building was deconstructed, and contaminated soil was removed, but the post office’s north wall was preserved to retain a parking lot next to it. The gate remains a polarizing feature, even after installation. Holes installed in the concrete plaza will allow easy installation of a badminton net.
