Normal 0 false false false en-AE ZH-CN TH I stayed in Zimbabwe for 23 years, as a resident and then a citizen, but never a tourist, although I did take holidays with my children. I did get a couple of chances to play the tourist in the grand style towards the end of my time in this beautiful but troubled country. So glad to reconnect.

I was rather shocked to see such poverty and degradation among whites, something you never saw in Zimbabwe at the time. South Africa has long been a country of deep contrasts, complexities and contradictions. How ironic that Zimbabwe felt like heaven and South Africa a deeply broken country in those distant times.
