The resulting design solution was developed based on physical assessments of the architectural, electrical, mechanical, and structural systems, which dovetailed with conceptual plans dedicated to student and faculty success. The building benefits from a high-efficiency geothermal energy system under the Romney Oval.

Wilbert Davies, who later became a notable California-based landscape architect, was retained by the Leach family to develop landscaping plans. Phase 1 focused on developing the upper garden and establishing connections between it and the lower, house and historic garden, garden. The first phase is approximately seven acres.

Our initial competition entry showed circulation pathways were a much more literal interpretation of the river concept with flowing curved edges and pier like structures extending over them.
