Mae Architects completes "21st-century almshouse" in Southwark

London studio Mae Architects has created Harriet Hardy House in Southwark, a block of 119 social homes complete with a community centre and cafe. US studio Desai Chia Architecture designed a highly sculptural, waterfront home wrapped in concrete and charred cypress that has vaulted roofs resembling wings. Roughly rectangular in plan, the dwelling has cutouts, cantilevers and multiple sloped roofs that combine in a sculptural way. Desai Chia created "winged" roofs for the house.
