Construction Begins on the Island Outpost

30X40 Design Workshop

Foundation + site work has begun on the island Outpost project and we quickly encountered an important decision after removing the overburden of soil at the building site. Our initial foundation strategy to use posts + piers and minimize the amount of concrete was thwarted by higher than expected bedrock (ledge) elevations.

Résidence des Forge consists of three wings set on a natural stone foundation. The whole ensemble creates an unusual volume that breaks away from the horizon to reflect the desired effect the designers were seeking to convey from the very first sketches. Black spruce plank siding was chosen for its visual neutrality.

January 2020 as it appears in my Samsung gallery time line. I was quite proud of these little sketches of my grandsons, done on Samsung Note. How I loved the challenge of piecing those spaces together, making educated guesses, based on partial information. Just a bunch of enthusiasts coalescing around an idea for about a year.
