The firm has been recognized by numerous nominations and awards, including a nomination for the Mies van der Rohe Prize in 2004, a shortlisting for the FAD Award in 2007, and winning the Premi d’Architecture dels Socis Arquinfad the same year.

The project was designed and co-developed by SUM Design Studio , a firm I first wrote about for this blog back in 2007, in a post called Design + Development + SUM. In both spots, some crisply contemporary halo-shaped chandeliers were nicely juxtaposed against and also spotlighting the scruffy materiality of the exposed-wood ceiling above.

A historical annex and a house built in 1930 were both converted into additional accommodation, while an old stone barn was preserved and restored to provide a flexible activity space and storage. The studio used the existing buildings to inform the design. Karsten Gori and Uffe Leth founded their Copenhagen-based practice in 2007.
