He received honorary doctorates from Philips University in Marburg in 2002 and from Chung Yuan Christian University in 2005. Von Gerkan was co-founder of the gmp Foundation and of the Academy for Architectural Culture (aac). Therefore, our work as university professors and in the gmp Foundation was particularly important to us.

It has received several awards, such as the BCI Asia award in 2005 for the top 10 architecture firm in the Philippines. In 2001, the Henning Larsen Foundation was started to promote Danish architecture, and has recently held international competitions. The Belgian firm has won the first prize at the Golden Rules for Urban development.
