The site presented challenging constraints including a former tenants’ hall and public right of way, existing mature trees and a neighbouring terrace of listed Georgian buildings. The landscape design achieves a net gain in biodiversity and exceeds the required urban greening factor of 0.5.

The new village-like structure is vernacular and deeply rooted in the site and history. Concept The idea behind the structure is one simple building block, repeated and varied according to its placement on the site and its orientation. In these small, intimate rooms, students can read or make telephone calls.

This competition is a big deal and there are typically hundreds of entries from all over the world from both professionals, students and all points in between.
