American Business Media has officially announced Robert Cassidy, editorial director of Scranton Gillette Communications’ Building Design + Construction magazine, as the winner of the 46th annual G.D. Crain, Jr. Award.

The award, which is given annually to a business media editor with a proven career record of product quality and high journalistic standards, will be presented at the 60th annual Jesse H. Neal Awards ceremony on March 14, 2014.

Cassidy has spent the past 36 years honing his business journalism skills, primarily in the fields of medical and scientific publishing. In 2002, Cassidy shifted his focus to the construction industry, taking point on Building Design + Construction, a role he holds to this day.

When the magazine was acquired by SGC Horizon/Scranton Gillette Communications in 2010, Cassidy helped facilitate the transition. Over the course of his career, Cassidy’s publications have received four Neal Awards.

Since 1969, the G.D. Crain, Jr. Award has been bestowed upon a member of the b-to-b marketing community in recognition of a career dedicated to leadership, policy formulation and the overall progress of the industry. The award is named for Gustavus Dedman Crain, Jr., the founder of Crain Communications, Advertising Age and BtoB Magazine.

"I'm honored to be included among the distinguished past winners of the ABM Crain Award," Cassidy told ABM. "I've been lucky to have a 36-year career in business-to-business media, and I am very thankful to the Crain family and ABM for this recognition."
