Shuttered Glasgow nightclub to accommodate 230 students

A former nightclub on Glasgow's Queen Street has been lined up for redevelopment to provide purpose-built student accommodation above an active ground floor.

Last in use as the Archaos nightclub, closed since 2007, the site has been taken on by real estate investor CA Ventures and Flow Design Architects to deliver 230 student beds and associated facilities.

The Victorian tenement warehouse is said to be in 'extremely poor condition', lacking the floor area to accommodate a viable alternative commercial or residential use.

A representative from CA Ventures said: "During a well-documented shortage of purpose-built student accommodation, potential students have no choice but to explore rental accommodation, which adds to the already significant strain on housing stock."

A formal planning application is expected by the end of the year ahead of a start on-site by early 2023 with consultations getting underway from Wednesday.

The massing model already gives away how overscaled this proposal is. I'm also wondering whether the derelict buildings behind the red line might be incorporated instead of left to rot.
