Expanding business plans Glasgow manufacturing base

Mosaic Architecture + Design has prepared plans for a new production plant for spray painting, engraving and vibration testing on vacant ground off Acre Road within the West of Scotland Science Park, Glasgow.

Purpose-built for Polaris Vision Ltd the facility will be finished in buff brick with timber glulam columns under a zinc roof on a two-acre site overlooking the River Kelvin.

Combining testing rooms, storage and production, as well as a research and development space, the headquarters will take the form of an interconnected series of spaces providing 14,844sq/ft of accommodation arranged over two levels.

In a design statement, Mosaic wrote: "The new building will be formed of a two-storey office and manufacturing facility, with an observation deck at roof level forming a partial second floor.

"There is a colonnade to the south elevation of the building, formed with Glulam posts, supporting a section of roof overhanging the main elevation."

Employing 17 people Polaris is currently based in the Helix building within the Kelvin Campus.

Clearly some projects take 25 years to come to fruition! 1997, what a year!

It's a pity the image only shows the jaded building that's making way for something new.

#1 my thoughts exactly! Just in time for the critical reappraisal of the early Blair years and Cool Britannia. Us Millennials love this kind of thing.
