Cj Hendry’s public pool celebrates Vegas extravagance

New York-based artist Cj Hendry transforms the desert landscape of Sandy Valley Ranch, Nevada, with the installation of her vibrant Public Pool. Running from April 5 to 7, 2024, the piece is accompanied by a comprehensive exhibition informed by the dazzling ambiance of Vegas hotel pool parties, as well as Hendry’s distinctive style and playful wit.

Central to the Public Pool experience is a massive 50-meter-long inflatable pool, towering at a height of 3 feet. Through Cj’s creative vision, this seemingly ordinary structure becomes a dynamic reflection of the spirit of Viva Las Vegas, complete with its ‘glitz and whimsical kitsch’. Amidst the desert backdrop, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in this unexpected oasis, in a celebration of Vegas extravagance.

diving into the fantastical world of the public pool

Cj Hendry is known for transforming her fascination with contemporary material culture into large-scale,
hyper-photorealistic drawings. Her work isn’t intended to be passively observed but actively experienced through engaging, fun, and thought-provoking exhibits. The same applies to Public Pool. The installation includes hot pink flamingos, neon inflatables, and colorful floral motifs, inviting visitors to indulge in an extravagant and fantastical world. ‘I love the vivacity of Las Vegas and the duality of the desert together. I hope this exhibition sparks joy, connection, and a sense of wonder for everyone who dives into the experience,’ shares the artist.
