Inspiration #69: Kitchen Cooktop

Earlier this month, we looked at the kitchen sink workspace, but another key area to get right in the design of a kitchen is the kitchen cooktop. They say food is a way to the heart, and the kitchen cooktop is where most of the magic happens – so let’s take a look at some beautiful designs!

This is the latest in a weekly post of residential architecture inspiration. If you want to see past weeks, you can go here. If you want to see them curated on my pinterest (sometimes before they even hit the blog), go here.

This New Zealand artist’s home in Toronto is a gorgeous mix of vintage and modern…and the kitchen cooktop space blends these ideas seamlessly. The simple lines create a space without fuss to disrupt the flow of the eye – or the flow of making delicious food. As you’ll see in the images to come, I *love* a separated kitchen cooktop because it allows the clean line of the counter to continue uninterrupted.

A beautiful, simple nordic home shows how easily a kitchen cooktop can blend in with the larger counter and provide a seamless transition from prep to cook.

Moving over to The Netherlands, this kitchen cooktop in a home in The Hague shows that gas inserts can be a great option, too. I also love the open shelves with spices and everyday plateware for easy access and beautiful display when not needed.

In Australia, we get to be jealous of their merging of outdoors and indoors, but this gas kitchen cooktop blends in seamlessly with the rest of the kitchen counter and bright, white kitchen.

Another nordic home, making full use of IKEA’s budget-friendly, well-designed parts and pieces, this kitchen cooktop sits amid the butcherblock like a workspace that is, in fact, ready to work. My brain does wish that the range hood and lower shelf lined up, but that’s an inspiration post for another time 😉

This Melbourne home by Harrison Interiors takes simplicity to a whole new level. The kitchen cooktop has a dazzling simplicity in a sea of simple, repeating patterns. And who doesn’t love a clean, white range hood box?

Last but not least, this peek inside the kitchen of Sarah at Coco Lapine is muted and simple in all the right ways. The thin horizontal likes of the cooktop and counter are continued in the open shelving and the simple drawer layout of the cabinets. A perfectly calm place to end a day with a cup of tea.
