From the Architect: "Nestled into the redwoods of Sonoma County is the Forestville Treehouse, a cozy two-level weekend residence that Studio Plow modernized to create a whole new experience for the clients. Beyond the cosmetic renovation, Plow made large structural and architectural changes to the interior and exterior of the home.

"The original low ceiling was opened to the roof structure above. To give guests and the homeowners a sense of living in the treetops, skylights were added in the newly vaulted ceiling to capture the breadth of the forest.

"Plow focused much attention on modernizing the kitchen. Removing an existing structural wall that separated the living room from the kitchen allowed the client to host in a whole new way. The island now serves as a central fulcrum around which guests can gather and mingle while the client creates lavish dinners. A tambour finish on the island creates a soft juxtaposition with the shaker-style cabinets and their brass hardware.

"With the existing entryway demolished, one is greeted by a large picture window which sets you into the redwood treetops. The addition of an entry nook with a built-in bench and shelving creates a segue into the home, and provides a storage solutions for its compact plan.

"Key structural transformations allowed for a free-flowing open concept between the living and dining spaces and the outdoor patio. Modern iron French patio doors swing open to allow enough space for the client to easily move her dining table outdoors, maximizing entertainment spaces and experiences for guests.

"Plow wanted to ensure that the design was not only a collaboration with the client, but that its spaces were infused with her personality so that every detail reinforces her story. To this end, Plow was both designer and story editor, pulling in the client’s perspective to ensure that the final touches reflect her character and flavor in the furniture, accessories, and hardware."
