You can find all sorts so tips, techniques, and inspiration from a myriad of sketching sources but I wanted to focus on people who actually drew the sort of sketches that I want to draw - buildings and street scenes.

Stand-alone recreation halls were a little more common in the late 1800s and early 1900s for the Church. They were later integrated into the meetinghouse building. This stand-alone recreation hall serves the historic Pioneer Stake on the west side of Salt Lake City. It was later renamed the Harold B. Lee Recreation Hall because of his role in its history.

Temporary quarters: Senate of Canada Building

Canada’s Parliamentary complex, in Ottawa, is undergoing a massive 10-year restoration that includes the Centre Block, which houses the government’s two parliamentary chambers. A project team led by Diamond Schmitt Architects and KWC Architects has converted the city’s 1912 train station into a stately interim home for one of those chambers, the Senate.

Architecture Billings Index rebounds after two down months

Following a two month decline in demand for design services, architecture billings got a bounce in October, according to a new report released today from the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The Architecture Billings Index (ABI) score in October is 52.0, up from the September score of 49.7. This score reflects an increase in design services (any score above 50 indicates an increase in billings).

Utility’s proposal threatens California’s rooftop solar mandate

A proposal by Sacramento Municipal Utility District could undercut California’s mandate requiring solar panels on almost every new home. The utility is asking state regulators to allow its customers to get power from solar farms instead of installing their own panels. Home builders have warned that the state’s solar mandate will drive up already high housing costs—adding almost $10,000 to the price.

Most U.S. voters support licensing standards for architects

The survey found that 89% of voters agree it is important for architects to be licensed. Cambridge, Mass., teams up with utility on energy retrofit program

The City of Cambridge, Mass., and electric utility Eversource have teamed up on a building energy retrofit program to spur more energy retrofits. The program targets buildings that are more than 25,000 sf or 50 units for energy-saving improvements. The program “will proactively connect building owners and facility managers to energy efficiency services, incentives, and technical support,” according to a news release.
