Mini Library (using recycled furniture)

After we completed the ward block of the Bagan Specialist Centre at the end of 2019, the hospital started moving the patients and staff into the new building so that we can renovate the existing building. Together with the owner, we decided to see if we can give the old furniture and equipment a new life. She had some ideas about setting up some reading corners throughout the hospital, for people to stop for a quiet moment to collect their thoughts, to kill some time and hopefully learn something useful through reading.

We found these stools in one corner of the old operating theatres, left behind like school kids after the last bus had left. Something about their old school metal framing caught my eye, and we simply replaced their seats and repainted them.

These bed screens or room dividers are a thing of the past - now replaced by bed curtains which are more space efficient and less likely to trip patients and nurses with the metal 'feet'. They have done their part and it is time for them to put their feet up - which is what we did. by inverting them and using them as the framing for the book shelves.

Young Mr, Khor worked with his steel fabricators and carpenter to complete what was an unusual task for them.  I hope the builders share our satisfaction because we are pleased with the results, to be able to reinstate part of the hospital's history with its future.
