90-story mixed-use building could become Denver’s first supertall tower

Denver’s skyline may be about to undergo its biggest addition ever if the City approves a proposed $400 million project that would become the Mile High City’s first supertall skyscraper. Six Fifty 17, designed by Carlos Ott, Crown Architecture, and Davis Partnership Architects, will provide over 1 million sf of space. The mixed-use building will include 248 luxury condominiums, a boutique hotel, 22,000 sf of retail space, and over 500 parking spaces.

Nonresidential construction spending stabilizes in August

Nonresidential construction spending expanded 0.5% in August, totaling $691.8 billion on a seasonally adjusted, annualized basis, according to an analysis of data from the U.S. Census Bureau by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). Though this represents an improvement from July’s total ($688.2 billion), nonresidential spending remains 3.4 percent below its year-ago level and is down 3.8 percent from the cyclical peak attained in May 2017. .

California lawmakers pass bill that requires GCs to pay wages of sub employees if subs fail to pay

The California State Assembly recently passed a bill requiring general contractors, or direct contractors, to pay subcontractors' employees if the subcontractors do not pay them. The measure, if signed by Gov. Jerry Brown, would go into effect in January 2018. General contractors would not have to pay penalties related to subcontractors' nonpayment.
