Basel is Switzerland’s little secret. Located where the Swiss, French and German borders meet, Basel is a mecca for architects. Traditionally, the city has had an ancient kind of allure – Medieval Gates, grand cathedrals and historical palaces – but nowadays, contemporary architecture can be found everywhere.
Special thanks to Basel Tourismus and my friend Philipp Heer who organised a short trip to this delightful area of Switzerland, where I could discover – for the first time – Basel’s many charms and architectural gems. Anything interesting in terms of architecture is here. If you find any mistakes, or have any suggestions please let me know in the comments. My intention is to keep it useful. Hope you enjoy!

Liebe Virginia,
Basel steht auch auf meiner todo Liste, ist allerdings nicht mein erstes Ziel, wenn die Covid-19 Krise endlich vorbei ist.
Mein erstes Ziel ist Cley next the sea. Friends of us are living there.
Best wishes, Susanne

Hi Virginia! We thought Basel was a real treat. We wandered all over town – up and down and back up again. 🙂 We particularly liked the Rathaus and the Basler Münster, and managed to take home some fun Christmas ornaments. Hope all is well with you. Fabulous to hear from you. ~Terri

Ahhh Christmas must be such a delight for visiting Basel. I’ve heard there’s a Christmas market around the old town were the Rathaus is 🙂 Where are you based at the moment? It seems you are always around Europe?

Right now we’re in Lexington, KY near our families. The US has been particularly hard hit with Covid – 5 of our family members have had it (several are medical professionals). So we’re sticking close to home until we can get the vaccine. We’re hoping that things can get closer to normal in the near future. Are you in London right now? Terri

Sorry to hear that, and I hope they are fine. I’m in London at the moment and we are quarantining too. We were watching your elections like a TV show, it seems America is going through a lot of changes. Nothing is happening on this side of the pond. I’d love to go to Spain at some point and spend time with my family there but it’s going to be difficult. How are you spending Christmas? Also, happy Thanksgiving 🙂
