Toquerville is a small community northwest of St. George, located on the banks of Ash Creek, which runs down along the rim of the Great Basin to the Virgin River. Near the center of town is one of the oldest standing buildings, an original LDS Chapel built in 1879. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recently launched Insight, a new data-driven tool that highlights building project design features that can lead to better performance. Insight, available as a feature of the Arc platform, provides information on design attributes of LEED certified buildings within a specified geographic region. Project teams can compare and rank potential sustainability strategies to see how they stack up against the performance of other buildings.

The goal of this project was to provide a gathering place for Boston University’s more than 300,000 graduates that would put them right at the heart of the Charles River campus. This adaptive reuse of a historic Tudor-Victorian mansion required a complete exterior restoration, the installation of a new commercial kitchen and HVAC system, and an extensive expansion of the BU Pub.

A campus that consisted of the shuttered St. Rose de Lima Church and two brick-and-wood school buildings ruined by Hurricane Katrina is now a venue that supports New Orleans’s cultural arts and education sector. Since 2016, Google has leased the seven-story, 750-foot-long hangar where, in 1943, Howard Hughes housed his all-wood-body Hercules IV airplane, the “Spruce Goose.”.
