The Power of the “Profit First” Culture in Architecture

EntreArchitect

We architects have deeply rooted positive passion for what we do. As artists we love to manipulate form and space, in order to impact the lives of others. We are thrilled every time we walk through one of our structures. Our fuel is the excitement and emotional reaction that others have for our art. We love being architects. We are making the world a better place with every new project and we would do it for free if we could.

Being an Architect is Hell … My “New” House

Life of an Architect

Buying a new house is stressful for just about everyone, myself included. The actual act of trying to find a house that doesn’t make me want to claw my eyeballs out is a challenge … because I am ridiculously picky and I actually see all the crap that most people miss. This “gift” is a blessing and a curse because it allows me to recognize a house for its potential rather than rely upon the vision of others to present the house in a more complete and finished manner.

2016 Life of an Architect Playhouse Design Competition – Finalists

Life of an Architect

Last Friday was a big night here at Life of an Architect World Headquarters 2.0. It was the first round of playhouse judging and we had to go through 497 entries. While that sounds like a lot, it wasn’t that hard to go through most of them. In total, 337 were reviewed from the Houzz Website and the Playhouzz collection, and 78 were previous finalists in the playhouse competition when it was completely handled and processed on my site.

2016 Life of an Architect Playhouse Design Competition – The Winners

Life of an Architect

Judging a playhouse design competition is a lot harder than it sounds. To make things even more interesting, I was able to get Houzz, the National AIA, and the fine folks over at SketchUp involved, and that is a lot of chefs in the kitchen. But we are a resilient group and since this year’s competition was all online, I thought I would turn to my friends and colleagues (subtle difference) and ask them all to review this year’s group of finalists.
